Warrington Town began their first game since the sacking of popular management duo of Joey Dunn and Stuart Humphreys with caretaker managers Rick Ward and James Standing handing a starting debut to sixteen year old winger Dylan Glass and welcomed Rob Hardwick back into the starting line up after returning from holiday.

After all the upheavel of the previous week, Warrington needed to make a good start if they are to continue their play off push, but within two minutes, found themselves behind, when striker Danny Mahoney capitalised on hesitancy in the visiting rearguard to lob keeper Paul Pritchard and give the home side an early lead.

Despite this early setback, Warrington were in the game, and just two minutes later, Glass saw his shot, from Chris Thompson's pull back blocked, before Thompson shot wide. The yellows went close to equalising on 16 minutes, when Andy Heald saw his glancing header go narrowly wide of Bamber Bridge keeper Lee Dovey's left hand upright, however, within a minute, the home side were almost two goals ahead, after Mahoney's shot which beat Pritchard, was cleared off the line by veteran centre half Dave Ness.

In what was a very open encounter, Town midfielder Dale Wright was next to go close, poking Hardwick's cross wide at full stretch. On 25 minutes Bamber Bridge extended their lead, a poor punch by Pritchard falling to midfielder Matt Mahoney who made no mistake and drilled the ball home from 12 yards.

After falling two goals behind, Town continued to press forward, but a poor final ball and good defending from the Bridge rearguard meant that Town struggled to create a meaningful goalscoring opportunity, until the stroke of half time, when full back Owen Roberts saw his curling free kick smack away to safety off the upright.

The visitors came out looking focused and took the game to the home side, Thompson shooting straight at Dovey early on before Dannhy Mahoney poked wide when well placed for the home side. Town had a great chance to get back into the game on 56 minutes when Thompson chased a long ball and was felled inside the area, by a combination of Dovey and defender Matt Lawlor. Dale Wright stepped up, but saw his penalty excellently saved by Dovey, low to his right.

Despite this setback, Warrington continued to push forward with Hardwick twice seeing shots saved by Dovey, before midfielder Heald also shot straight at Dovey from the edge of the penalty area. With 20 minutes to go, Town got back into the game, and got the goal their play deserved when Hardwick was on hand to capitalise on the chaos created by the arrival of Mike Tomlinson into the box, to loop a header beyond Dovey and into the corner.

Town went close to snatching an equaliser, Dave Ness heading narrowly over the bar. Try as they might, Town could not find an equaliser, the closest they came was when Ness found himself free on the edge of the penalty area, only to shoot over when off balance.
