Match Details: Saturday 7th April 2012 Northern Premier League Division 1 North
Attendance: 116 Warrington Town: Paul Pritchard, Nick Jackson, Owen Roberts, Dale Wright, Michael Jackson, Mike Tomlinson, Michael Reid, Gerard Kinsella (Kyle Hamid), Rob Hardwick (Steve O'Brien), Chris Thompson (James Anderson), Liam Shipton. Subs not used: Dylan Glass. Ossett Town: Not available Warrington Town gained their first three points under their new management duo of Shaun Reid and Lee Smith, following a workman like 2-0 win against Ossett Town at Cantilever Park, with second half goals from recent signing Michael Jackson and an own goal from Ossett centre half Ryan Laight, sealing the points for the yellows. Reid made one change to the side that drew 2-2 at Trafford in midweek, with Dale Wright, who came off the bench to score in the fixture replacing Kyle Hamid, who dropped to the substitutes bench. It was the home side who started the brighter of the two sides with Chris Thompson shooting too close to Ashley Connor in the Ossett goal. Warrington continued to press the visitors rearguard with the industrious Wright, causing problems from the visitors rearguard, indeed, it was his run and cross that could not be finished by the on-rushing home attack, before the same player twice shot at Connor soon after. On the rare occasions that Ossett mounted an attack, the Town rearguard, superbly marshalled by captain Mike Tomlinson soon snubbed out the threat. The second half continued as the first half ended, and six minutes into the half, Warington's pressure paid off when recent signing Michael Jackson found himself unmarked at the far post to produce a bullet header past a statuesque Connor and into the roof of the net from Owen Roberts' fine corner. Soon after going a goal down, Ossett produced their only decent chance of the game, but striker Luke Richardson shot well wide of keeper Paul Pritchard's left hand upright. The home side went close to adding to their lead shortly after the hour, when Ossett defender Dominic Riordan saw his reverse header saved on his own line by Connor. With just over a quarter of an hour left to play, Warrington sewed up the three points their play desevred, and it was courtesy of an own goal from Waight, who saw his attempted block of Liam Shipton's centre go past a stranded Connor and roll into the net. A raft of substitutes, including a debut for recent Town signing Stephen O'Brien saw the flow of the game somewhat disrupted, and it was O'Neill who went close late on, his crafty lobbed effort falling narrowly wide of the upright. | ||||||
