Harrogate RA: Not available WARRINGTON Town continued with their excellent form with a 4-0 victory over Harrogate Railway Athletic taking them up to 2nd in the table. Town continued their unbeaten run as striker Tony Evans (pictured) bagged his second hat-trick of the season. Town started the game the brightest of the two sides, but it was the visitors who had the first chance of the game, winger Ben Parkes seeing his angled drive well saved by Paul Pritchard. Town took the lead in the 13th minute, when Railway keeper Chris Elliot, under pressure from Chris Gahgan, parried Mike Duffy’s cross into the path of Tony Evans who stroked home from six yards. Town continued to take the game to their visitors, with left back Louis Corrigan going close from inside his own half, his shot being taken by Elliot just inside of his six yard area. Town went further ahead just after the half hour, when Evans scored at the second attempt, after his first drive was blocked by the Railway defence. Railway were still occasionally threatening, striker Kevin Ryan heading over the bar when well placed. Town went close to going even further ahead shortly before half time, winger Andy Potter volleying Tony Evans’ teasing cross against the post and seeing the ball bounce away to safety. On the stroke of half time, Pritchard saved well from second striker Jon Maloney. A triple substitution by the visitors at half time, saw Railway come out of the blocks with more impetus, but it was Town who had the first chance of the second half, veteran play maker Gareth Farrelly going close to his first goal for the club, but his shot was well save by Elliot. Railway substitute Steve Palfrey was causing Town’s rearguard some problems, indeed, it was he who forced a fine low save from Pritchard as the substitutes began to get into the game. Fellow substitute Aaron Hollindrake was next to go close for Railway, seeing his shot plucked from the top corner by Pritchard, the follow up from a tight angle was kicked off the line by Town captain Mike Tomlinson. The last of Railway’s good chances fell to midfielder Paul Stansfield, who saw his shot go narrowly over the bar. With the introduction of Town’s substitutes, Town began to control the game, substitute Rob Hardwick shooting over when well placed, and striker Gavin Salmon shooting too close to Elliot. With fifteen minutes to go, Town sewed the game up and Evans completed his hat trick with a low shot from fifteen yards, that Elliot possibly should have done better with. Just four minutes later, Chris Gahgan met Mike Duffy’s fine low cross to slot home into the roof of the net. Stansfield saw his late half chance well saved by Pritchard’s legs. | ||||||
