WARRINGTON Town bounced back from being two goals down to earn a share of the spoils in a thrilling 2-2 draw at table topping Chester. Unfortunate to be two goals down and playing better football for much of the match Town could have snatched all three points in the dying seconds as Chris Gahgan blasted high and wide with the goal at his mercy. Chester took the lead after just five minutes with their only real attack of the half as Steven Beck cooly slotted home a rebound off the post as the Warrington defence was caught static. But to their credit Warrington soon settled and dominated play for the rest of the half and were unlucky to go in one down at the break. Warrington again controlled much of the play in the second half controlling much of the play, although Chester always looked dangerous on the break and when George Horan rose on 68 minutes to fumble the ball past Pritchard it looked like it wasn’t going to be Warrington’s day. But they showed their battling spirit and were duly rewarded when the lively Gahgan forced Stuart Jones into heading past his own keeper. It was now nearly all Warrington and they got their just rewards on 87 minutes when Tom Hardwick fired an angled effort home from 12 yards out to send the travelling barmy army into raptures. Then with the clock ticking down Gahgan had a great chance to grab all three points but just failed to control the ball as he was at full stretch attempting to latch onto a fine cross from Mike Duffy. Young Sam Finlay was once again outstanding in midfield, taking the man-of-the-match award for the second game running. After the match a delighted Town manager Joey Dunn said: “I said we feared no one in this league and that performance shows it. We came back from being two goals down and should have really won the game today.” | ||||||
