Match Details: Saturday 22nd January 2011 Northern Premier League Division 1 North
Attendance: 112 Warrington Town: Paul Pritchard, Mike Duffy, Louis Corrigan, Tom Hardwick (Adam Jukes), Mike Tomlinson, Adam Wade, Anthony Hickey (Alan Collins), Sam Finley, Chris Thompson, Gavin Salmon (Tony Evans), Chris Gahgan. Subs not used: David Ness, Rob Hardwick. Woodley Sports: Not available WARRINGTON Town climbed into the play-off positions despite being held to a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to lowly Woodley Sports. There was little to choose between the two teams in the first half and Warrington were some what fortunate to go in 1-0 up at the break as striker Gavin Salmon bundled the ball into the back of the net against his former club, after a good cross from full-back Mike Duffy opened up the away defence deep in stoppage time. Town seemed to content to sit on their slender lead and were duly punished in the 72nd minute when Woodley centre forward Chris Smith was left unmarked in the box to grab the equaliser. Warrington stepped up a gear in search of the winner but poor finshing and a couple of half decent saves by the Woodley keeper ensured they dropped two valuable points in their push for the play-offs. It was certainly a case of “after the Lord Mayor’s show” following Tuesday night’s thrilling Cheshire cup semi-final at Northwich. But with other games falling victim to frozen pitches Warrington climbed to 4th in the table. Warrington will get a quick chance to get back to winning ways when they entertain Cammel Laird on Tuesday evening, kick off 7.45pm. | ||||||
