WARRINGTON Town kept their play off hopes alive with a hard earned 3-2 victory at Cammell Laird.
It was Warrington’s first ever league victory over Lairds and sweet revenge for the 0-1 defeat at Cantilever Park just three weeks ago.
Striker Chris Thompson gave the Wire the perfect start when he turned on the spot to fire home the opener after just three minutes.
But the lead was short lived during a hectic period of play as the home side levelled when Jamie Henders volleyed home after 17 minutes when he was left unmarked inside the box from a corner.
Five minutes later the home side had a penalty but for the second match running Town keeper Paul Pritchard pulled off a fine diving save. But from the resulting corner Lairds scrambled the ball over the line to take the lead through Lee Atherton on 23 minutes.
With the game ebbing and flowing from end to end Warrington were back on level terms on 40 minutes when Adam Wade rifled home from 30 yards to make it 2-2 at the break.
With chances few and far between during the second half Warrington were eventually rewarded when Gavin Salmon battled for possession and sent in a sweet cross from the left for Thompson to tap in for his second goal of the night.
Lairds threw caution to the wind in search of an equaliser with Pritchard pulling off a flying save deep in injury time to ensure Warrington collected all three valuable points to move up to 6th in the table and just one point off the play-offs.
