Match Details: Monday 27th August 2007 Northern Premier League Division 1 South
Attendance: 160 Warrington Town: Danny Morton, Liam Coyne, Danny Salt, Chris Fitzsimmons, Dougie Pitts, Andy Thomas, Andy Potter (Phil Mitchell), Steve Smith, Neil Smith, Ged Courtney, Paul Crompton Sheffield: Not available TOWN looked out of sorts against a useful looking Sheffield side and were out-played throughout the first half. Sheffield took the lead in the 29th minute when Karl Colley put the ball passed Danny Morton in the Warrington goal. They could easily have been further head as they had already gone close twice. Town brought on Phil Mitchell in place of Andy Potter for the second half, but Sheffield still had the upper hand and went close to scoring when Matt Roney hit the post. It wasn’t until the last 15 minutes that Warrington began to make some progress against a solid defence. Sheffield made a few substitutions which may have altered the balance of the side, but Warrington started to pass the ball again and made many positive runs at goal. They went close several times and eventually substitute Mitchell found himself in front of goal with the ‘keeper on the ground to level the scores. The goal brought Town to life and they attacked continuously for the rest of the game. But Sheffield held out and Warrington had to be content with a point. | ||||||
