Match Details: Saturday 6th February 2010 Northern Premier League Division 1 North
Attendance: 116 Warrington Town: Richard Mottram, Mike Tomlinson (Mick O'Donnell), Chris Gahgan, Phil Hadland (Dave Roberts), Tom Hardwick, Levi Kennedy, Connor Taylor, Jimmy McCarthy, Michael Grogan, Tony Evans, Gavin Salmon Ossett Albion: Not available WARRINGTON Town made it three wins in a row as they beat Ossett Albion 2-1 at Cantilever Park but the victory was soured by an injury to goal scoring skipper Mike Tomlinson who was stretchered off with damaged knee ligaments. The popular centre back had given Town the lead after just six minutes heading home from a corner. But he was stretchered off mid-way through the half after a crunching tackle and is likely to be out of action for at least a month after suffering torn knee ligaments. The injury unsettled Warrington who appeared to lose their appetite for the game and were fortunate to be still 1-0 up at the break as the visitors squandered several decent chances. Warrington settled in the second half and a powerful strike from Michael O’Donnell appeared to steday the nerves and put Town in control at 2-0. But Warrington failed to push on and paid the penalty in the 84th minute when a clusmy challenge by Jimmy McCarthy allowed the visitors back into the game as Shane Kelsey scored from the spot, just beating the out stretched Town keeper Richie Mottram. The goal lifted Ossett who looked to have secured a share of the spoils when Town conceded another penalty deep in stoppage time but this time Mottram guessed right again as Kelsey fired against the post. The victory saw Town climb to sixth in the table with next week’s trip to 4th placed Skelmersdale now a massive game for the club as they continue to push for a play-off place. | ||||||
