Mottram walked after being told he was at fault for one of Woodley’s two first half goals which levelled the scores after a flying start saw Warrington two up after 15 minutes. After the game Dunn said Mottram showed “lack of character” and “let his team mates down” as he walked out leaving the goal-keeping duties to winger Jimmy McCarthy (pictured right). Mottram’s future was already in the melting pot after previously saying he had lost his desire for the game and his career at Town is now over. The day had started so well for Warrington with Gavin Salmon scoring a wonder goal against his former club as he lashed in a fierce shot which looped in over the keeper from outside the 18 yard box after just seven minutes. Warrington were two up after 15 minutes as striker Tony Evans netted and Warrington looked in the mood for more goals. But five minutes later Woodley hit back when a long range effort from Mark Haslam left Mottram rooted to the spot and the scores were level eight minutes later as the home side broke from a Warrington corner and Danny Queeley raced clear to score. With the scores level at the break the second half saw Jimmy McCarthy in goal for the absent Mottram, signalling a debut for 21-year-old winger Tom Rutter, (pictured left) who almost scored with his first touch, only to be denied by the outstretched keeper. Woodley took the lead on 55 minutes when Dan Brown out jumped a static defence to head home. McCarthy then pulled off a couple of fine saves to keep Warrington in the game. Warrington re-grouped and got their just rewards after 74 minutes when Mike Grogan headed home a deserved equaliser. Warrington could have snatched a win with Mick O’Donnell hitting the post but following the loss of Mottram and a make-shift defence without the injured Mike Tomlinson and Tom Hardwick and the suspended Levi Kennedy, it proved to be a creditable performance on Woodley’s synthetic pitch, which has seen many teams undone this season, following a run of eight homes games without defeat. Warrington now travel to Clitheroe on Tuesday evening, kick off 7.45pm and entertain Radcliffe Borough next Saturday, who will be on a high after a surprise 3-2 victory over high flying Halifax who visit Cantilever Park on Tuesday week. | ||||||
