WARRINGTON Town earned a precious point in a thrilling 3-3 draw at fellow promotion chasing Bamber Bridge.
Town started brightly against the Preston outfit who kicked off their season at the weekend with an impressive 3-0 victory at Halifax Town, having the better of the early exchanges, with recent signing Phil Hadland particularly causing problems for the home defence.
An early cross was scrambled away and Rendell then headed over from another Hadland cross. The home side took the lead against the run of play, when Richie Mottram spilled a free kick to allow Adam Tong to drive home into the roof of the net.
Mottram soon made up for the error, to deny the home side on three separate occasions, however he had no chance, when striker Neil Zarac rose highest from a corner, to head home.
Within five minutes, Town were back in the game, when Matty Farrell (pictured right) met a Hadland cross, at the far post, to head the ball home from six yards. Mottram was called into action shortly afterwards to deny Alex Porter, when one on one.
Both sides began the second half well, and the early introduction of livewire substitute Billy Webb, gave Town another dimension in attack. A snap shot from the half way line by James Thomas went narrowly wide.
Bamber Bridge increased their lead on 57 mnutes when Zarac poked the ball past Mottram, after a quick free kick. Six minutes later, Town were back in the game, when James Thomas scored with a fantastic drive from the edge of the box, to give Town hope.
Bamber should have gone further ahead, when striker Porter saw his shot rebound back off the post. Town were on top, however, and with 11 minutes to go equalised, when Webb, got on the end of a smart Town counter attack to slot home, after good work by Rendell and Franny Smith. The action was not over however, with Rendell harshly seeing red, for a second bookable offence with a minute to go.
