Match Details: Tuesday 22nd January 2008 Liverpool Senior Cup
Attendance: 69 Warrington Town: Shane McWeeney, Steve Everett, Danny Toone, Tom Spearitt, Tony Dunne, Karl Brown, Phil Mitchell, Francis Smith, Carl Rendell, Michael Owens, Martin Bell Prescot Cables: Not available WARRINGTON Town suffered late heartbreak as Prescot Cables put them out of the Liverpool Senior Cup. The Yellows fielded a side missing seven first team regulars who were cup tied and drafted several players from the reserves into the squad. To add to Paul Moores’ woes, the home side lost youngster Danny Toone after 15 minutes who suffered a nasty ankle injury and was replaced by the experienced Danny Salt. Town had the best two chances to break the deadlock in the first half, the first falling to Karl Rendell who missed the target after 20 minutes. Striker Martin Bell then wasted a chance from a good position when he raced clear of the Prescot defence, but could only fire his shot wide of the target. The game entered half time with the scores level, but soon after the break Warrington broke the deadlock with an emphatic volley from Rendell following a free kick from Chris Moores. Warrington weren’t in front for long however, as substitute Gavin Lynch levelled the score to send the game into extra time. A hard fought extra 30 minutes ended in disaster for the home side when Mick Donnell found the net in the 117th minute to break Warrington hearts. Prescot will now go onto face either Liverpool or Everton in the semi finals, and Warrington will look to get back on track against Colwyn Bay next Tuesday. | ||||||
