Warrington Town: Terry O'Hanlon, Matty Farrell, Lee Smith, Steve Latham, Lee Riley, Lee Webster, Tommy Baker (Phil Mitchell), Iain Dyson (Daryl Allen), Mike Heverin (Graeme Mitchell), Chris Moores, Dave Tickle

DEFENSIVE shortcomings proved costly for Warrington Town on Saturday as they crashed to their heaviest away league defeat in 12 months.

Town looked on course to win at Shepshed Dynamo before their rearguard disintegrated in a dismal second half showing.

Manager Glenn Walker decided to consign brothers Graeme and Phil Mitchell, who netted 40 goals between them last season, to the substitutes' bench.

The selected forward pairing of Heverin and Moores both carved out chances but their finishing was awry.

Midfielder Tommy Baker hit the target for Town, powering in a low shot a minute after Jason Knight had headed Shepshed into the lead.

Shepshed then took advantage of Town's hesitancy, poor marking and lack of communication at the back.

The home side nosed in front with a penalty, awarded when Lee Webster tripped Wes Armstrong en-route to goal.

Town goalkeeper Terry O'Hanlon then handled a back pass by Webster and Matt Moran drove home the resulting free kick.

Armstrong fired in a fourth goal before Graeme Mitchell hit an injury time consolation for Town, who travel to Sheffield side Stocksbridge PS on Saturday and fellow high flyers AFC Telford on Tuesday.
