Altrincham: Not available

WARRINGTON Town’s top of the table clash with near neighbours Altrincham ended with a 0-0 stalemate in front of a bumper crowd of nearly 1,000 at a rain swept Cantilever Park.

With the wind behind them from “Storm Brian” Warrington had the majority of the early possession as both sides struggled to adjust to the conditions in wind and rain.

Chances were few and far between throughout the game, with Yellow’s shot stopper Tony McMillan the busier of the two keepers.

Altrincham had the first real effort on goal as James Poole’s long-range free kick took a deflection, with McMillan making the save.

Town striker Josh Hine had an effort blocked out for a corner and then Abou Sanogo forced a save from Altrincham keeper Anthony Thompson.

In the second half Altrincham had plenty of possession, but were unable to break down the Yellows defence.

Warrington finished the game strongly and had a chance to snatch all three points when Altrincham failed to clear Sean Williams’ free kick but Evan Gumbs fired over the bar.

At the end of the day the weather was the only winner and a draw was probably a fair result
