A JACK Higgins goal deep into injury time rescued a potentially valuable point in the play-off race for Warrington Town at Whitby. With the final weekend of the season just a fortnight away, the Yellows had to play their second game in three days, which will become three in five when they travel to Farsley on Saturday. They twice trailed on the night and it Higgins on both occasions who would drag them back to earn a 2-2 draw. The long trip east following Tuesday night’s limp goalless draw against Nantwich Town could hardly have got off to a worse start when Whitby took the lead inside two minutes through Lewis Maloney. But after six minutes it was all square, Higgins scoring his first, a header in to an open goal. Whitby re-took the lead on the stroke of half time through Matty Tymon, but he turned in to the villain on 81 minutes when he was sent off for a two-footed challenge. Warrington made the numerical advantage pay, albeit with virtually the last kick of the game, as Higgins scrambled the ball home for a potentially crucial point, both in the league table and perhaps mentally too. Despite the point, it stretches Warrington’s winless run to six games as the play-off picture tightens around them. | ||||||
