Returning home for the first time in 40 days, the Yellows scored a goal in each half to maintain their unbeaten home league record without conceding a goal. Liam Brazier scored his first goal for the club, getting on the end of home debutant Niall Watson’s cross, and Reece Daly also bagged his first in yellow six minutes after half time. Watson’s dad Liam was in the team the only time the Yellows had previously beaten Guiseley on this ground, and he was an interested onlooker as Paul Carden reverted to four at the back and his side put in an encouraging display. As well as the two goals, they created plenty of chances, while centre half pair Chris Doyle and Troy Bourne looked comfortable at the back. The first half saw four yellow cards for the hosts, some deserved some not so much, and it was midway through the half until a real chance of note, Mark Isong heading wide from Jack Doyle’s right-footed cross. A big save by Liam Isherwood, the only one he would make in the match, kept Guiseley’s best chance out, the ‘keeper making himself big to stop Will Longbottom one-on-one in the box. Just minutes after that, the Yellows broke the deadlock on the half hour mark. Watson got around Lebrun Mbeka on the left and got to the byline, pulling back for Brazier in the centre of the box to divert home inside the far post. Isong fired a shot well wide after a good run, before an enforced change for Guiseley saw them replace striker Leo Farrell with midfielder Jake Emmett, and for the first time, they started to gain some control of the game. They ended the half with a half chance for Longbottom, who headed straight at Isherwood from John Lufudu’s cross. It was the first time the Yellows had scored a first half goal all season, and the first time they had led in a game since the 1-0 home win over Ilkeston back in August. They eased their nerves six minutes in to the second half, when Isong’s battling won the ball back on the edge of the box and Daly created enough room to screw a shot across the ‘keeper and inside the far post. They could have had a third, James Melhado heading over from a deep Doyle cross, and then Isong’s header from Bourne’s pull back scraped the top of the crossbar. Watson hooked a shot over the bar from a Doyle corner, and then Brazier steered a shot over the bar from Melhado’s cut back. In the end, two was enough to ensure the Yellows started a run of four consecutive home games with a win. | ||||||
