WARRINGTON Town’s impressive home form continued with a 3-0 win over FC United.
Niall Watson scored twice after Max Thompson’s first for the club had given the Yellows a lead to make it an unhappy return to the Cal.Delivery Stadium for former manager Mark Beesley.
Thompson pounced on a loose pass by United captain Declan Evans, and decided to chip over ex-Yellows ‘keeper Dan Atherton from 30 yards to open the scoring on 22 minutes.
The lead was doubled shortly after the half hour mark, James Melhado doing really well to keep the ball in play on the right touchline with a header, and the ball for Liam Brazier to play forward. Watson proved too strong for Rudy Misambo, and then steered a right-foot shot past Atherton and inside the far post.
There wasn’t much in the way of chances at either end in the period either side of the half time break, with FC United’s only real opening coming on the hour mark when Jay Fitzmartin’s curling shot was headed away by the excellent Evan Gumbs.
The result was put beyond doubt on 62 minutes when an excellent Jack Doyle corner from the right was headed home by Watson.
Yellows ‘keeper Liam Isherwood was only really forced in to one save, tipping wide a low shot by Fitzmartin, and his opposite number Atherton had to get down well too to save from Reece Daly.
It marked a sixth consecutive home win for the Yellows, and moves them within two points of the play-off places.
