WARRINGTON Town ended a run of five games without a win with a deserved 2-1 victory over Hyde United. Substitute Elliott Morris struck the winner five minutes in to the second half with his first goal of the season, after former Yellows loanee Dontai Gabidon had equalised against the run of play on the stroke of half-time. Troy Bourne had earlier fired the Yellows in front in a much-changed team, with Paul Carden making five changes to the starting line-up that lost to Guiseley last time out. Bourne, back from a two-match suspension, was one of those and there were full debuts for Josh Shaw and Jordan Scanlon, who both made their first appearance for the Yellows as substitutes last week. The Yellows settled in to the game quickest and were within a whisker of taking the lead through an unlikely source, Hyde defender Damon Park heading just wide of his own goal from a dangerous James Melhado cross. Scanlon and Max Thompson both hit rising shots off target before Bourne opening the scoring on 13 minutes, pouncing on a rebound after another former Yellows loanee, Hyde goalkeeper Li-Bau Stowell, had parried Scanlon’s shot through bodies straight in to his path. Hyde almost responded shortly after, Tunde Owolabi beating Bourne but was denied by the onrushing Liam Isherwood who saved well one-on-one. Joe Rodwell-Grant curled a free-kick just wide and Daly slashed a shot over, before Max Thompson couldn’t take advantage of an enforced defensive header by Stowell on the edge of the box. Hyde levelled on the stroke of half time when a ball forward by an otherwise quiet Jack Redshaw, marked out of the game by Matty Tweedley, released Gabidon and with Isherwood hesitant, Gabidon lofted the ball high over him and in. Fortunately, it didn’t take long after the break for the Yellows to restore their lead, Josh Vela releasing Morris on the right and his pace took him in to the box to shoot through Stowell for 2-1. Thompson and Daly had half chances, but it wasn’t until the final two minutes that either goalkeeper was properly tested, Isherwood getting down smartly at his near post to turn away Owolabi’s shot on the turn. It completes a league double for the Yellows over Hyde this season. They are next in action away at Lancaster City next Saturday. | ||||||
