Subs not used: Jack Doyle, Harry Roper. KALLAN Murphy scored Warrington Town’s earliest goal of the season, but they had to settle for a point on the road at a windy Ilkeston Town. Murphy put the Yellows in front after four minutes, the first time they had scored inside the opening 10 minutes of a match all season, steering home from 10 yards out after James Melhado had got in-behind on the right. He could have had a second five minutes later, not quite getting a strong enough connection after latching onto a throughball, which meant a comfortable save low to his left for Alfie Roberts. Roberts was busy in the first half, albeit more as a result of the wind than an array of shots, playing almost as a sweeper to snuff out any threat as virtually every ball beyond halfway was blown forward. As a result, Ilkeston found it difficult to get a foothold of their own, their best chance falling to L’varn Brandy, who hit a rising shot well wide. Murphy glanced a header wide and then Max Thompson fired a shot over the bar on the half-volley as the Yellows went in to half-time a goal to the good. The second half was always going to be different due to the conditions, and the wind helped Connor Dixon’s curling cross on to the crossbar. It took 10 minutes for Ilkeston to restore parity, a flick-on in midfield catching Liam Isherwood in two minds whether to come out of goal or not, instead he stayed on his line and was beaten by a pinpoint Daniel Odunaiya finish into the corner. Ilkeston had the better of things after then, their best chance falling to Odunaiya who hooked over the bar from Man of the Match Sam Essien’s pull-back. Substitute Elliott Morris shot wide for the Yellows, before Essien missed his chance to win it, lashing over the bar from the edge of the box. The Yellows welcome Rylands for the Warrington derby clash on Easter Monday. Warrington Town: Isherwood, Melhado, Shaw, Gumbs, Bourne, Butler, Tweedley (Scanlon), Vela, Murphy, Daly (Harris), Thompson (Morris). Unused subs: Doyle, Roper. | ||||||
