Emley: Bottomley, Shephard, Farrar, Lindley, Cowgill (Hanson), Barks, Ejupi (Thompson), Haswell, Johnson, Kiwomya (Sorhaindo), Stacey (Murray). Substitute Laurence Sorhaindo pounced six minutes from time to earn Emley a point away at Warrington Town. A brace for Yellows forward Ewan Bange had turned the game around after the Yorkshiremen had taken a first half lead through Aaron Haswell’s cross-cum-shot. Haswell’s goal brought the game to life after a fairly non-descript first 20 minutes, after which Emley started to take control through a succession of corners and long throws. It was from a short corner that Haswell opened the scoring, cutting in on to his left foot and floating a curling ball that drifted over Mateusz Hewelt and into the top corner. Hewelt made up for that with a superb one-handed save moments later to deny Rinor Ejupi. The Yellows felt they should have had a penalty on the half-hour mark when Ben Elliott appeared to win the race to a Bange flick-on ahead of goalkeeper Ben Bottomley, who brought Elliott down. It didn’t matter in the end, as from the resulting corner, the Yellows equalised. The initial corner was cleared and then Reece Daly’s cross was headed back in by Luke Burke to Evan Gumbs to flick on and Bange came around at the far post to sidefoot home. The game had now turned into an open, end-to-end contest and moments later Emley nearly restored their advantage when Hayden Lindley crashed a shot against the post from 20 yards out. The Yellows ended the half the stronger of the two sides, Daly leading a counter-attack and putting Bobby Bjork through on the right, he didn’t get enough power on his shot and it was comfortable for Bottomley. Good defending from Jack Cowgill then snuffed out Bange from Jack Goodwin’s cross as the two sides went in level at the break. The home side enjoyed more of the second half and determination from Elliott helped create a chance for Daly, his shot from outside the box beaten away by Bottomley, who also managed to get to the rebound before Elliott. Emley had two brief looks, both through Gabriel Johnson, snuffed out on both occasions by one of the Yellows centre-backs, before Jack Goodwin forced a save from Bottomley at the other end. With 15 minutes to go, it seemed like Bange had pounced for the winner, stretching to poke home from Daly’s cross after good work by the midfielder, but Emley snatched a point. An error from the otherwise excellent Evan Gumbs brought the ball down right at the feet of Sorhaindo, who didn’t need a second invitation and he shot first time into the far corner to earn the visitors a point they probably deserved. | ||||||
