WARRINGTON Town are through to the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy after Tuesday night's stunning replay success at Frickley Athletic.

Town, who play their Unibond League football a division below high-flying Frickley, forced extra time and subsequently penalties after Steve Latham's outstanding opportunist 83rd minute equaliser.

And this all followed Town centre back Matty Farrell being sent off in the 79th minute for a second bookable offence.

When it came to the penalties Glenn Walker's side held all the aces, with goalkeeper Colin Flood saving Frickley's first spot kick and former Blackburn Academy striker Phil Howard firing home the last and decisive penalty to earn Town a tie away to fellow First Division team Bridlington Town on November 12.

It was only Flood's second appearance since re-signing from Cammell Laird, while Howard's winner at Frickley was fitting to the occasion as his first goal for the club was Town's 69th-minute equaliser at Cantilever Park on Saturday, which forced a 1-1 finish and the replay.

Walker said: "You'd have thought the boys had won the European Cup with the way they celebrated at the end. They were diving in front of the home fans and all piling on top.

"It was good to see because it shows the spirit in the team and they deserved their success. They were down to 10 men but were the best side and every player was outstanding."

Warrington had gone behind in the 57th minute after a low strike from quicksilver Leroy Chambers.
