Subs not used: Marvin Molyneux, Withe, Josh Hine, Scott Bakkor, Liam Goulding. WARRINGTON Town progressed in the Integro Cup with a 3-2 win at Colwyn Bay. Aboubacar Sanogo scored a brace, including one from the penalty spot, as a weakened Yellows side booked their spot in the next round. This is a competition that the club won in 2014/15, though is barely a priority to most clubs and Paul Carden took the opportunity to rest the majority of his first team. It meant starts for the likes of Ged Kinsella and Adam Carden, while names were drafted in from the club’s reserve and academy sides, including Jack Richards, Liam Lambert and Jamie Davis. Their lower league opponents, playing in the Evo-Stik League First Division North, took the lead in the fourth minute when Jack Kelleher fired home after a Jamie Rainford shot was blocked. Colwyn Bay wasted a golden opportunity to double their lead on 35 minutes when Kelleher was brought down in the box, but Rainford’s penalty kick was saved by Ben Ascroft, deputising for regular stopper Tony McMillan. They took a 1-0 lead in to the half time interval but within two minutes of the restart, another penalty swung the game in Warrington’s favour. This time it went to the Yellows and was converted by Sanogo for 1-1. By the hour mark, Warrington were in front, Connor Hughes scoring from a rebound after a shot had hit the post, and then on 64 minutes, Sanogo added his second to give some breathing space. Although Rainford managed to pull one back in injury time, Warrington were able to hold on and move on in the competition. They are back in league action this Saturday with a massive top of the table clash against Altrincham at Cantilever Park (3pm kick-off). | ||||||
